WASHINGTON – 13 people were killed and 30 wounded in a pair of shootings Thursday at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas, the Army says. An army spokesman in Washington says the base has been locked down following the shootings. Lt. Gen Bob Cone said at a news conference that one shooter has been killed and two suspects were apprehended on Thursday. He says they are all U.S. soldiers.

The White House said President Barack Obama was notified of the shootings.
My prayers go out to the families of those slain or wounded; "going in harm's way" shouldn't include your home base, Stateside.

Why, of course we shouldn't have weapons on a military base! (/sarc)
If the shooters turn out to be non-military, then the focus will be on you and me and other gun owners.
I also heard on Fox news (tv) this morning, that 5 elderly folks got onto a naval base, using bolt cutters. They wandered around for some time.
Looks more like we need more weapons and better security in place at our military installations, not less.
With all of that said, my prayers and condolences to all affected by this mornings melee at Ft. Hood.
Let's hope they catch all the SOBs responsible for this post haste.
You're right on the money on all fronts. Family and service members should feel--and be--safe and secure on their home turf. And the anti crowd will jump on this to call for more control...although I wonder how far it would have gone if there were MORE military personnel walking around with their duty rifles and pistols loaded.
