Earthquakes Everywhere

The 8.8 magnitude quake in Chile got everyone's attention this morning, and our thoughts & prayers go to them today. There have been significant quakes on both sides of the Pacific basin.

I took a look at the list in Alaska this morning, and got an eyeful there, too. Look at what's happened here in the last 24 hours ... it does make one wonder.

Btw: the tsunami advisory for Alaska doesn't currently include the mainland, but only the Alaska Peninsula - that long finger leading west to the Aleutian Islands. Those of us in the mainland are in the "info" status. That being said, it could get real interesting out around Dutch Harbor & the Aleutians in the late afternoon.

Heh! I didn't see your post when I made mine about the Pacific Rim ( http://pointsofcompass.blogspot.com/2010/02/pacific-rim-is-rockin-and-rollin.html ), but I did notice the huge number of quakes in Alaska and California.

Heck, there were even two in my old backyard in New Jersey! (Okay, they were only mag 2 or so, but still.)
