A Busy Afternoon

I replaced the overhead lights in all the bedrooms, and hung a new fixture above the dining table. Daughter S. and my wife took turns handing me things, as my sore knee announced early on that it didn't care for going up and down the ladder repeatedly.

The new lights are all similar in style, but no two exactly alike. The girls picked them out, and say they're happy with the results. Who am I to argue?

A side note regarding the electrical work: the buckle on my tool belt is worn to the point that it came loose a few times. I guess I get to go to Big Box Hardware and look for a new one. Darn the bad luck, huh? :^)

Joated would be interested to note that I saw a bird today which I hadn't seen before: a western turkey vulture. It flew past the kitchen window from about 40 feet away, so I got a good look & was then able to identify it by pictures, on-line.

I was fresh out of reading material, but Amazon comes through again: The Real George Washington arrived today. 928 pages of historical goodness. Yay!

We got up to 45 degrees for awhile today, and the snow in sunny spots was melting quickly. In shady spots, like the overhang above our garage, the 26" of snow has compacted to 21 or 22 inches, but isn't melting nearly as quickly.

On the other hand, the annual "rush the spring season" has taken hold of the locals, and I've seen street apparel from parkas with shorts & rubber boots, to a couple of gals in tank tops, cut-offs and flip-flops. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, but I noticed they crossed the street to stay on the sunny side.

I'm going to go put my feet up & contemplate dinner. Have a great weekend, folks.

The book sounds good. Let me know if it is an accurate portrayal. SR was walking through Wal-Mart and found the Firefly series so she bought it for me. I have been wanting to watch it since you wrote about it.

While I've been out west many times and have quite a list of western birds, I'll be sure to pack my purloined copy of The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America. ("Borrowed" it from the brother-in-law when we were out to the San Francisco area for a wedding and never quite returned. I owe him one.)

DR - what I have read, so far, indicates the book delivers on its promise: an accurate portrayal of one of our greatest leaders.

Joated - you'll be glad you brought the book.
