Iditarod Update: Linwood Fiedler was first into the checkpoint at Finger Lake this morning. He was first to leave from Willow Lake, yesterday afternoon (shown here), but that "first out of the chute" standing doesn't usually last for long.
In fact, it didn't. He's dropped to 5th place; Sebastian Schnuelle is now in the lead. Defending champ Lance Mackey is in 12th. Mackey has a history of hanging back at the beginning of the race, running easily until the early leaders begin to tire.
If you're interested, the leader board can be found here.

It was 11 degrees at my house this morning, with a strong north wind & some snowflakes in the air. There's no new snow on the ground, despite yesterday afternoon's forecast for 2" to 4" overnight. They're still calling for accumulation this afternoon, and there is snow in the forecast for most of this week. That's not a bad thing.

Unrelated topic: I haven't seen any .45 ACP on the shelves here since around February 1st last year. One of my friends in Missouri is having 500 rounds shipped to me today. Thanks, Dana! It seems his local gun shop had about 10,000 rounds on display, at $400 for 1,000. Dana & I are splitting a batch; the shipping costs remain to be seen, but the USPS does a reasonable job of getting the heavy packages here in timely fashion.
Thanks for stopping by.

Good afternoon Rev.!! If you don't mind, I'm going to link your blog to my dog blog while the Iditarod is on. It is such an exciting event. Just love it & your reporting is always so good. Just don't get that down here in the lower 48. Have a good one!
Go right ahead, Cassie. I'll try to keep the reports up-to-date.
