We only received three to four inches of icy snow accumulation, but it snowed a lot more than that, most of which melted; and that melt-water froze overnight. It's 22 this morning, and the local newsies are going on about how many cars are in ditches, and how glazed the roads are. Yay. If any District of Criminals folks are reading, that's the reason Alaskans drive big trucks: dangerous roads, snowfall, etc. Keep your Prii and other hybrid peanut-cars down south, where the weather is more amenable to lightweight vehicles.
Oh, you D.C. folks got lots of snow, too? DANG the bad luck. Maybe y'all should re-think that whole Globular Warmering thing.

My youngest is taking the high school exit exams this week. If she does as well as usual, she'll have completed the testing in her sophomore year of high school, and could then technically graduate now, at 14. It would require getting a G.E.D., and we haven't yet discussed whether she wants to go that route.

The roads are indeed icy this a.m., and the highway median had about as many skid marks & signs of vehicular distress as I've ever seen. Must have been a bad night.

So the current administration thinks we should remove all references to Islamic extremism and jihad from our strategic plans. Apparently everything from 9/11 to the Undie Bomber to Jihad (oops!) Jane is due to, um, uh, pixies! Yeah, that's the ticket. Pixies.
What moron thinks the world's gonna love us because we turn a blind eye to those who have publicly sworn to destroy us? I know - let's give away all our nukes!

Um...Teresa, it's only April. Within the next two weeks, give or take, all the snow will be gone. (Possibly excepting large berms and 'snow dumps'.)
June, July, August, September are our four months of summer weather. If you're coming during those months, we'll have highs in the 60s and 70s. Enjoy!
Crossing into Atok on July 4 (if we ever get the final paperwork...grrrr!), so I guess I'll be there for summer.
Good for your daughter! Of course, should she choose to get that GED she'll have to figure out what's next...and that could get scary for a young lady of 14...no matter how good she might cook.
Joated, FYI there's an automated gas station with a VERY high canopy not too far inside the AK side of the crossing. Tok is a wide spot on the highway, otherwise.
YD wants to go to a cooking school, so that's next. Imagine that!

I opted out and started college at 14. Socially it was difficult, and I had to reconcile the fact that I would not have friends in class, there was too much of a bridge between us, but otherwise no regrets. I finished college that much earler and frankly, I was bored out of my skull in public school.
Whatever you and she decide, she will go very far in life.

OH boy, you & YD has some decisions to make.fun. My neighbor's daughter is one of the chefs at the Biltmore and sometimes when they go to other fine dining establishments their meal get comped!! Great perk!!
Be careful on those icy roads. We're heading up north tonight (I think) & they just had a snow storm. Can hardly wait.
