Senatorial Vitriol, "Only Ones" Wound Bystander, and a Prayer Request

My father underwent exploratory abdominal surgery yesterday; I haven't heard any results yet. Your prayers for him would be appreciated. Thank you.

UPDATE: I just spoke with Dad; he came through with flying colors.

From today's Anchorage Daily News:
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, criticized for not hitting back harder at her primary opponent before Tuesday's election, lashed out on Friday at fellow Republican Joe Miller as "paranoid" for suggesting her campaign's lawyers wanted to skew the results of the election.

And then, even as more than 20,000 ballots remain uncounted and the Republican primary remains unresolved, Murkowski demanded an apology from Miller for what was seen as a crude remark about her campaign via the social networking platform Twitter.
and proof that Rule #3 still applies, even to police:
A shotgun round fired by Seward police to kill a black bear Thursday night pierced the animal, ricocheted and hit a bystander in the abdomen, police say.

The bear died.

The person? Merely bruised, City Manager Phillip Oates said Friday. "It didn't even penetrate the skin. ... We're very lucky in that case.

In fairness, I don't know as anyone, "only ones" or no, can really be held responsible for a ricochet out of the target.

That said, there's one officer in Anchorage I'd like to sit down over lunch with and get his story from someday. Guy patrols midtown all armoured up and with magazines hanging off him every whichaway - he just always looks ten minutes from a gun fight. I've just always been curious if there's something different in his job description, if something happened and he's compensating now, or if it's just the way he is. But it seems rude to ask him in public. :)

To the Senate... well.. yeah - what you've been saying.

Jenny, I realize the ricochet may have been unavoidable; I didn't blame the officer, but was pointing out the result as a cautionary tale to remember that awareness of what's behind the target is still a very good idea.

Thank you, Brigid. I hope you & yours are well.

Best wishes for your old man. Good to hear the surgery went well. Hope the recovery does too.

As for the "lawyering up" brouhaha... I hope Miller's attorney is as good with elections procedures as he was with all the ethics complaints against Palin. He went undefeated there, I believe.

Either way the absentee count goes, it looks like there will be a recount...unless they are overwhelmingly for Miller--which I hope they are.
