Election Day Quotes

(Personal note: I was at my precinct at 7:01 - they open at 7 - and there were 22 folks ahead of me. There were others arriving every minute or two, the whole time I was there. The three inches of "scattered snow showers" we got overnight didn't discourage anyone from voting.)

In a democracy, two wolves and a sheep take a majority vote on what's for supper. In a constitutional republic, the wolves are forbidden on voting on what's for supper, and the sheep are well armed. ~ Anonymous

It's illegal to say to a voter "Here's $100, vote for me." So what do the politicians do? They offer the $100 in the form of Health Care, Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Food Stamps, tobacco subsidies, grain payments, NEA payments, and jobs programs. ~ Don Farrar - average guy, age 51

Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich by promising to protect each from the other. ~ Oscar Ameringer

The Senate voted 97-0 for an anti-spam bill to stop those annoying things you get on your computer. The senators made it very clear that when you start misleading the American people and start taking their money over false promises, that's our turf, buddy! ~ Jay Leno

How did it happen? How did our national government grow from a servant with sharply limited powers into a master with virtually unlimited power? In part, we were swindled. There are occasions when we have elevated men and political parties to power that promised to restore limited government and then proceeded, after their election, to expand the activities of government. But let us be honest with ourselves. Broken promises are not the major causes of our trouble. Kept promises are. All too often we have put men in office who have suggested spending a little more on this, a little more on that, who have proposed a new welfare program, who have thought of another variety of 'security.' We have taken the bait, preferring to put off to another day the recapture of freedom and the restoration of our constitutional system. We have gone the way of many a democratic society that has lost its freedom by persuading itself that if 'the people' rule, all is well. ~ Barry Goldwater

Great quotes Rev. Paul, especially Goldwater's. I am praying like crazy that Miller wins.
