On this, the final workday before Christmas, I had a nice surprise: it's above zero this morning. That may not sound like a lot to you, but this time of year we're grateful for little warm-ups, to break the monotony.
AccuHunch predicts it will be -10 to -20 tonight, so 8 above is a nice change of pace.

The local rag has a story quoting some federal autocrat saying that it may be "at least 20 years" before it's financially feasible to build the natural gas pipeline from the North Slope to Anchorage & surrounding areas.
That's nice. The local gas companies report that we'll have shortages beginning next year, with supplies getting shorter each year thereafter.
Not feasible? Come up here when it's -25, next month, Mr. Bureaucrat, and talk to us again. Oh, that's right, I forgot: you're in D.C., where what happens outside the Beltway is purely a theoretical exercise in Keynesian economics, and doesn't affect you.
What was I thinking? Never mind. It's not like we need electricity or heat or anything.

Speaking of the local rag, they're also crowing about how our "independent Republican" senator isn't "marching lockstep" with the GOP. Actually, they're correct. Sen. Murkowski (RINO-AK) is marching lockstep with the Democrats, instead.
Okay, I'm done venting. Have a great day and a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I detest those who say, "It will take 20 years..." and then use that as an excuse to not even start! If the dingleberry had started 20 years ago, the paperwork for the EPA/Sierra Club/NWF crowd would at least be finished by now and we'd be a whole lot closer to having the gas/oil flowing though those pipes.
(I'm still amazed that the ALCAN could be built in NINE months and that the Alyeska pipeline could be done so quickly. The know-how is there. It's the will that's lacking.)
I thought of you when I read that news story about the lock step thing this morning...and I heartily agree with your take on it.
