"We're wasting our time and energy, wishing/hoping/entreating the Congress, including any and all 'Tea Party' newbies, to do anything at all about the massive debt and pending bankruptcy of the formerly-great U.S. of A.
"Whether the currency collapses before the bankruptcy becomes apparent is a moot point, and will makes no difference anyway. The Progressive Party's intent to enact a creeping de facto martial law is dependent upon the willing participation of dumbed-down citizenry inhabiting the ranks of the police and military - and said police and military may not be nearly so willing to drink the kool-aid once they realize they're being offered Monopoly money on payday.
"The whole thing is a colossal exercise in meaningless rhetoric and political bloviating, watching Nero and his cronies playing a hoe-down while the empire burns to the ground.
"I had little faith in the elected officials at all, before the current round of talk, and have none at all, now. It seems apparent the people who should be rising up won't, and those who should be ashamed of themselves won't be, while abandoning all pretense at civility, sucking on the public teat, willingly boarding buses to throw tantrums and chant meaningless slogans in state capitols and at union rallies.
"I don't believe there's enough of that 'dedicated, tireless minority' to make a difference, any more. We're truly screwed."

What thoughts come to mind at this point? What's next? What should be next? Will anyone take the obvious steps? Ought we to rely on State governments to do what's right? Or are we, the American people, out of time and luck?
Discuss.

Things are going to get worse - a lot worse - before they get better.
I have faith that the American people will make it out the far side of our coming trials.
The American government?
Less clear.
I have to believe there's always hope.
Of course, maybe the Romans felt the same way, as the Barbarians began trashing the Empire.
I'm part of the 'dedicated, tireless minority', and I've not resigned, yet.
Maybe it'll be only symbolic, but let's vote out all who compromised their word, in 2012. By my assessment, that's everyone.
In regards to your post, I think the destruction of the Republic is all but certain. I Believe it's time to hunker down with like-minded people and to make sure you're as prepared as possible. Just my brief thoughts.
1. Whatever happens, life goes on. Babies are still born, people still love each other. The important things are still there in hard times ... the truly important things stand out the brighter in hard times.
2. It's still not too late I think for comparatively modest tweaks to save the system... raise the retirement age, sell off some assets, maybe mothball a carrier - heck, even an extra tax if it went into a sinking fund. We could go on more or less as normal if we could actually trust each other and seriously compromise on the hard stuff.
3. The chances of (2) are minuscule and fade faster every day we demonize each other. Further, there's enough "sick of the State's burden" on the one side and "want an all-providing international State" on the other that I don't think there's the consensus for it even if we *could* still be civil to each other.
4. It will get.... different. Very hard for a while.
5. Regarding hunkering down... we are commanded not to hide our lights under a bushel. Retreat for the sake of retreat is not enough.
If the commandment is not convincing enough.... remember when the Western Empire DID finally collapse, the future belonged to those who stepped up to salve the wounds and provide a direction.
.. and so it was that Western Europe shared a thousand years of Christendom.
The future belongs to them that show up for it.
Paul, you have some very intelligent readers/responders!
As things get tough, I truely believe the olders will survive. Survive and teach the youngers 'how we used to ...'(fill in with your own words).
I sincerely hope the citizens of this United States do not go the route of others we've watched over the past few months. We don't need riots to explain to our goverment what we feel, what we want, what we will settle for.
We need more prayer, more kindness toward our neighbors, and much more common sense direction.
After watching the police show up with the socialists and marxist at the union convention in Wisconsin, I don't really think they'll be rising to any occasion they will benefit us.
I suppose one can't claim that I'm of the faith...but if God truly blessed America, it feels to be getting on time for a little help.
But I don't imagine re-birth is any easier than the first time 'round.

Hi TJIC: Glad to see you out and about...
RP,
I wasn't planning on giving up until I saw that "The Donald" was #1 in the poles and read a "serious" article on how he is the best the Republicans have to offer. I'm now seriously considering finding a small island somewhere and going to hide.
OK, not really. However, the above is emblematic of the issues we have to overcome in order to fix things. And "things" may fall apart and have to be rebuilt instead of fixed. I am no where near giving up. And regardless of what happens I'm going to try to build a better tomorrow. There's only one event we can't recover from in my belief and that's the tribulation the Bible speaks of. Until then, we got a shot.
I pray regularly now for forgiveness, repentance, and revival for our nation. Without those things we won't recover. Also, I'll tell any naysayer out there, YOU DO NOT WANT THE REPUBLIC TO DISSOLVE! The USA has been and is the greatest hope and brightest light the world has ever seen as a nation. We've represented freedom better than any other country on earth and I believe that's due to how, who and why our country was founded. We aren't going to replicate that any time soon after a break up. If you want to see oppression, watch what happens to what's left of us if the USA breaks up. It won't be pretty for quite some time to come.
I agree with one of the above posters in that we're likely headed for quite hard times to come. I don't know how hard. I do believe that there's a lot of people who have a lot of spirit left in them that will try to keep things together or rebuild if necessary. It may even be those hard times that revive us as a nation as we surely don't value what we have now.
Things may get dark my friend but you never quit and you never give up!
Okay, time for me to weigh in. I like what I'm seeing here - the stubborn optimism, that "it ain't over 'til it's over" spirit - and that's EXACTLY why I posted this. I wanted to 'take the temperature of the room', so to speak.
Gave me an earful, you did. Excellently done, too. Thank you.
