Back in the Saddle

I'm back in Alaska, after a rather stressful week. It's a good day here: the sun is shining, and we're expecting 60 degrees again today.

The only flight that was an issue, going & coming back, was the final leg out of Houston yesterday afternoon. The sun was shining in a hazy sky when we landed, but the southwest (I think???) began to darken almost immediately. The gates around us kept warning passengers not to delay getting on, as they boarded, because "thunderstorms are moving in and we want to get out before they stop letting planes leave."

Whatever. The sky got a bit lighter, as our boarding time approached, and it was only raining when we took off. No sturm und drang, thankyouverymuch.

My thanks go to all who passed along their condolences, good wishes and prayers regarding my father's passing.

A special thank you to Dana and Sandi-with-an-i, without whose friendship and support this would have been much harder. And thanks also to Dana for letting me drive his Mustang GT: that didn't hurt my feelings at all. It's been awhile since I got to drive an honest-to-goodness muscle car. That was FUN.

Actually, it was therapeutic in more ways than one. It was Wednesday evening, and the day after burying my dad. I was shutting down emotionally, and didn't want to do anything except curl up in a ball in the corner. Dana kept insisting we should go for a ride in the 'Stang convertible, and I finally agreed to go. Then he held out the key and said, "You're driving, bub."

That drive took my mind off of the previous day, and pulled me out of my funk. I owe you one, pal.

So it's a warm day, and that sounds like a good thing to me. I'll probably start blogging again next week, and yes, there is another chapter planned for my book (for the three of you that are still reading it).

Y'all have a great weekend.
