All Alaska, All the Time

It has been more difficult coming up with topics to write about, since I realized that, in regard to politics & bone-headed politicians (but I repeat myself) I was preaching to the choir, and others were frequently writing about the same topics ... and usually more eloquently than I.

I decided some time ago to restrict myself to Alaskan issues, but of course that limits the number of topics a bit more. My life is, by all accounts, rather boring. That in itself may be unusual these days, but there are only so many ways to say "Alaskans are still mostly free these days, with Constitutional carry (OC or concealed, it doesn't matter as both are perfectly legal) and gas prices are still higher than yours."

But there. I said it.

Having said that, however, there are a couple of updates, and an "Only One" story in the news this morning.

  • It seems the burglar who savagely beat a seven-year-old girl in the head had sought help, the day before. Clearly, he needs help. I have little compassion for the guy, but IF he's truly delusional or in "diminished capacity" status, it may be that he didn't realize fully what he did. You can read the latest here.
  • From the Daily News:

An Alaska state trooper has been charged with drunken driving nearly two months after police say he drove a state-owned SUV into two vehicles in Eagle River, court records show.

The veteran trooper investigator, Eric Burroughs, had a blood alcohol level more than five times the legal limit to drive, even hours after the collisions, according to charges filed in court this month.

Burroughs, 44, fled from one of the accidents, leaving his front license plate at the scene, charges say.

And the prize for biggest NON-surprise goes to:

Just a day after a state panel approved new district boundaries for all 60 Alaska state legislators, the plan was drawing fire from Democrats who called it partisan and "deeply flawed."

No doubt they think it gives favor to Republicans ... "Never mind this is a highly conservative/libertarian state. We MUST preserve our little minority slice of the pie!"

Maybe if those same legislators would actually, you know, DO something with all our tax money they're spending. You may recall that during the regular 90-day session, earlier this year, after DAYS of hard lobbying and junkets, they managed to pass only two bills.

Why are we putting up with this, again?

The dullest day in Alaska is so different from a day here as to always be pretty darned interesting. Thanks for blogging it for us.
