The sun is shining, it's 55 degrees with light & variable winds ... and the road is beckoning. We don't even have a particular destination, but off we go.
Since it's impossible to drive anywhere in this part of Alaska without spectacular scenery, pics will follow. Ciao!

Have fun!
I love your philosophy on road trips: no excuse needed to hit the road.
I'll be passing through Anchorage on a road trip of my own in a couple of weeks, via Fairbanks and Denali NP. I'm curious: if a person will only have a single day in July in the Anchorage area, what's the one sight or experience that shouldn't be missed?
Jeff, if the day is clear, definitely drive up to Flattop Mountain. The view from the observation deck (get there via foot path from the parking area) is spectacular.
With clear skies, you will be able to see Mt. McKinley & the Alaska Range, Mt. Susitna (the Sleeping Lady), the Tordrillo Mtns, the Aleutian Mtns (and a couple of active volcanos, to the southwest), and the Kenai Mtns to the south.
