Two elderly Americans who said they were Alaska-bound were charged with smuggling and firearms offenses in British Columbia after they tried to cross the border with a small cache of undeclared, loaded guns, reports the Vancouver Sun. The Langley (B.C.) Times identified the men as 70-year-old Hugh Wayne Barr and 64-year-old Danny Ray Cross -- no hometown provided.
And on Sunday, another American, who also claimed to be Alaska-bound, had his motor home seized at the Manitoba-North Dakota border when Canadian guards discovered five handguns and ammunition hidden in panels behind a microwave oven and television.

The Manitoba crossing can be horrendous even if you have declared firearms. My husband and his mother were almost turned back because of desk jockey on a power trip.
