Alaska Digest 7/7/11

Two Walk Away from Plane Crash: A small plane crashed into a mountainside near the Old Glenn Highway Wednesday and the two men on board suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

A couple of VERY lucky guys ... and our thanks to the pararescuers who located them & treated their injuries.

Woman, 77, Chases Alleged Pug Thief in her Pickup: Police aren't sure why a drunk woman broke into an East Anchorage home early Tuesday and tried to steal a 77-year-old woman's pug, but investigators say it was the hair of the dog that led to her arrest.

Don't mess with Grandma. OR her dog.

Aerial Acrobatic Act Too Lewd For Wasilla: The “Naughty No-No Show,” an adult-themed aerial acrobatic act, originally scheduled for Friday in Wasilla, will instead take place in Anchorage after concerns were raised that the performance might violate Wasilla’s city ordinance against lewdness.

Liberty includes allowing other people the same freedom from interference that you yourself want. Needless to say, I won't be in the audience, but applaud the lack of nanny-statism on display, here.

Biologist Shoots Motherless Bear Cubs: A state wildlife biologist shot and killed two orphaned black bear cubs Wednesday on the Anchorage Hillside, upsetting some residents of the neighborhood.

Our biologists are pretty level-headed folks, and if they determined that the bear cubs had little chance of survival, then so be it. The Anchorage zoo can only accommodate so many orphaned cubs.

Slide Show: Glacier kayaking in Prince William Sound. Eye candy for your viewing pleasure - click on the right-hand edge of the photos to advance to the next slide.

Pictures from last Friday (7/1). You may want to put on a jacket for this one.
