Because most of the first part was driven by private industry, and most of the second part was driven by the Government.
Man! That really puts things into perspective!
I contend that if not for The Great Society efforts of the Dems, we might now be ON the Moon full time and on our way to Mars on a regular basis. Instead, we frittered away our time and money on "social justice" or some such crap.
