here in Alaska:
Effective today, it's legal to have studded tires on your car or truck, if you live north of the 60th parallel. That's most of Alaska ... but we're weeks away from actually needing them. It wouldn't be the first time there was an early blizzard, though, so it's nice to know.
The geese have been migrating south for a month, and the leaves are a beautiful orange, red and yellow. Some leaves are falling already, and we're only one good windstorm from the deciduous trees being bare for the winter.
People in line at the coffee shop are debating which Hawaiian island they'll be visiting this winter. (It's one of the most popular destinations for us, for obvious reasons. And Honolulu is only 5 1/2 hours from Anchorage, non-stop.)
