Wind Chill: Is Al Gore in Town?

It's 10 degrees with north & northwest winds at 15, gusting to 30 mph. The morning drive was interesting. Since DOT has managed to clear the pavement, I had the cruise control set at 65. After one particularly strong gust, I was suddenly doing only 55, the tranny downshifted - and I wasn't gaining any speed.

That eased after a few seconds, of course, but it was an attention-getter. The weatherman is telling us we could experience wind chills of -50 by tomorrow. That's cold by anyone's standards.

One other item of interest: last year, a movie unimaginatively called "Everybody Loves Whales" was filmed in Anchorage and Barrow. Right now, another film is nearly ready to wrap - "Frozen Ground" recounts the hunt for serial killer Robert Hansen here in the '80s. It stars Nicholas Cage, John Cusack (as the killer) and Vanessa Hudgen. Here's a picture from this morning's paper, taken yesterday on 3rd Avenue in downtown Anchorage.

I'm here to tell 'ya, negative fifty wind chills are indeed cold. I might even find myself wearing a coat in that kind of weather....

Thanks for the reminder on the 'takeover' stuff. Idiots.
