This Old Car, Part 3

Yesterday, after work I went to a particular spot in the garage and found the drawbar hitch, ball, locking pin, and trailer wiring adapter last used when I hauled a small car behind Big Green from St. Charles, MO to Anchorage.

Those may be the only items in the garage that haven't been touched in eight years.

After work today, I'll pick up the "auto hauler" flatbed trailer I reserved yesterday, and go to retrieve the car we've been given. It's a '98, by the way, so not really old.

It will be a family affair, as the four of us labor to
  1. jump-start the car
  2. drive it onto the trailer
  3. tie and chain it down
  4. drive it to the new location where work can proceed, and then
  5. reverse the process at the other end
except that we'll also have to jump-start the car while still on the trailer, to back it off. The girls can look it over while I return the trailer, and then we'll all head home for a warm meal.

I don't expect any real difficulties at this stage, but it's best to be prepared. The large wrenches used to tighten the 2" ball are now residing in the truck's tool box, just in case they're needed. Other than putting some air in the back tires due to the approximately 5,000-pound load I'll be towing, we're ready.

This is going to be fun. Oh! and since it's November in Alaska, the weather bears watching. It's supposed to be in the low- to mid-20s with 40 to 50 mph winds, and we have nearly a half-foot of fresh snow on the ground.

Did I mention it'll be fun?
