Snowy Night

Here's a picture I took around 5:20 a.m. today, using the digital camera's "nightime landscape" setting, which is basically a timed exposure. The slight blurring of the trees is due to the lingering winds from yesterday's chinook. Our temp climbed into the low 40s for a time, with rain & snow showers, and we had winds gusting to 81 mph.

The storm's total at my house was just over 8 inches of heavy, wet snow. Measurements around Anchorage ranged from 6" to 12". It's still snowing here in mid-town, with falling temps, but the snow advisory has expired. They're calling for more tomorrow night.

At 6:30 this morning, I was raking the snow off of our vehicles, and then running the snow blower in the driveway to enable my wife's car to get a running start toward the street. Our road is typically not plowed until the third day following a storm, and with storms coming every 48 hours this week, I may wind up having to drive her to/from work.

Clickable for big - the orange tint is the streetlights' glow reflecting from the low clouds.
