Alaska Digest, 1/17/12

The Russian fuel tanker has begun pumping 1.3 million gallons of fuel to Nome, with twin hoses stretched 700 yards across the ice to a pipeline. Nome was very, very close to running out; this is a good thing.

Collar-cam videos provide a bear's-eye view of a grizzly's life.

Video from Valdez where they've received nearly 30 feet of snow this winter.

A firefighter from Chugiak (north of Anchorage) had a bad day, ending with helping extinguish the ashes of his own home. His family is now homeless.

Thanks for posting the Valdez video.
We're headed north from Florida to Ohio.
Those scenes of 'true' winter make it a little easier.
