A Cold and Frosty Morn

It's -11 this morning, with a fresh layer of frost. Everyone is fed & coffee'd, and the girls are discussing their shopping destinations for the day. Older Daughter has offered her services as chauffeur, so they'll be off when plans are made.

I've got a couple of gift cards burning a hole in my wallet, so I'll be visiting some of my favorite haunts in search of various goodies. And AccuHunch is predicting another sunny day, so it might be a good time to search for those new photos I've been wanting to take.

I've noticed my truck hasn't been getting warm nearly as fast as it used to, and last night I noticed the sound of fluid sloshing through the heater core when the truck is cold. Seems the thermostat has gone bad (i.e., it doesn't seem to be closing), so that's another thing to take care of before too much time goes by.

We're discussing another trip to the range, if only to play with the new peep sights on the .22s, but the temps have been in the deep freeze since Christmas. But you never know; it's not like I don't have warm clothing.

The Geophysical Institute (University of Alaska Fairbanks) is forecasting an "auroral event" tonight, meaning a rather more-spectacular-than-usual display, but of course AccuHunch is forecasting increasing clouds. It's strange how often those two things coincide.

Have a great day, folks; thanks for stopping by.

Stay warm and get that thermostat fixed! The engine needs it too! LOL

Rocky Mountain poor boys cover half the radiator with cardboard.

Two rather ob(li)vious points:

1. The thermostat not closing, is the benign way for it to go bad - the alternative is an overcooked engine, with whatever damage that might entail...

2. Visiting the range in non-optimal weather, can be a damn good idea - crooks don't always wait for sunny weather, and bears don't care (they have the clothing for it...). So, training gun use under realistic weather conditions is a good thing, and a cheap form of insurance.

But it IS damned irritating each time something breaks!

God Bless!

Old NFO: I know. And naturally, it functioned perfectly today.

WSF: yep, I've done that too, both here & in the Midwest.

Wildly Calm: 1) Agreed. 2) Have done that many times; just wasn't feeling it this morning. I like it when it's cold ... there's no one else at the range.
