Snowday Wrap-Up

Deep, blowing snow is making travel difficult across Southcentral Alaska. The Department of Transportation is warning people in Anchorage to stay off roads to help plowing crews keep up with heavy snowfall.

Moose-car collisions spike as storm blasts Southcentral

Heavy snow and poor visibility Thursday night and for much of Friday led to a rash of moose-vehicle collisions in Southcentral Alaska. Between 5 p.m. Thursday and noon Friday, the volunteers with the Alaska Moose Federation scrambled to retrieve 15 moose carcasses in the Anchorage and Mat-Su areas.

No injuries reported in warehouse roof collapse
A portion of the roof of a Midtown warehouse collapsed under the weight of snow Friday morning, blowing out a front window and sending five workers scrambling for safety.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow today brings the seasonal total to 101.4 inches. Anchorage remains on pace to break the seasonal record of 132.8 inches set during the winter of 1954-1955.

All told, this day has been a bit challenging. Nothing we can't handle, of course, but with the weather advisory remaining in place and snow still coming down, it could make for some interesting conditions in the morning.

Have a great weekend, folks. Thanks for stopping by.

Fifteen!? Obviously those moose are having a tough time in the deep snows and figure the plowed roadways are great alternative routes for them...until that car/truck/semi comes out of the drifting snow.

But isn't it fun setting or breaking records??
