Mid-Morning Meandering

The upgrades to the first elevator are nearly done, as in "it should be going up and down by the end of the day." Now we wait ... and wait ... and wait for the Muni inspector to show up, sometime next week.

My normal thought about waiting on Big Gov't to do anything is one of derision, but safety inspections are not a bad idea. As a former building inspector, I had to deal with more than one budding homeowner who demanded to know why inspections are required. I told them, "The inspector is your last line of defense against an unscrupulous builder. Chances are that your contractor is a good guy, but how do you find out if he isn't? You ask the inspector to tell you how the contractor is doing."

That usually worked. Not always, of course, but usually. Waiting for the elevator inspector is a good idea, if for no other reason than if someone gets hurt by the thing, the building owners can point to the inspection certificate. It won't prevent a lawsuit, but failing to have the certificate would guarantee a loss in court.

So, we wait.

Local thieves have begun stealing catalytic converters from trucks in area parking lots. One local pawn shop owner said that the platinum/palladium/rhodium contents can be worth from $10 to $175 in some cases.

Much of the discussion in these parts revolves around the opening of king salmon fishing season. Fish on!

Now a days you often have to wonder if the inspector is as honest as the contractor. Other than that, your right about the need for the certificate if things go south in a hurry.

Mmmm. Salmon! Wish I was there!
