One More Day, My Johnny

So we fly out tomorrow night, amidst a forecast of falling temps and a rain/snow mix, with Thursday night's temp in the low 30s. Temp at destination forecast to be in the mid-90s.

That could be rough.

But for now, it's time to drag out a couple of suitcases, pull out our Hawaiian duds (the only hot weather clothes we own) and get things more-or-less ready.

Oh - and the title of this post? It's from an old sea chantey, sung by the sailors who were only one day away from their home port after a long cruise. I tried to find it on-line, but couldn't.

One more day, my Johnny, one more day!
Oh rock and roll me over, one more day!

Speaking of chanteys, the late Christopher Hitchens and I used to trade emails, and on one occasion where a journalist had made the malaprop "sexual morays" (he meant sexual mores) I emailed Christopher with it, mentioning the eels in the chantey "The Good Ship Venus," and he actually knew the song and emailed me back some of the lyrics.

Safe flight and following winds, my friend.

(And a Happy Birthday to you, too.)
