My wife and I are rediscovering our freedom to do what we want and be on our own schedule, due to our eldest getting her license. I can get used to this.
On Saturday we cleaned a bunch of stuff out of the garage & took much of it to the Salvation Army thrift store. We also did a bit of shopping for things that she wanted. Okay, she shopped for the things she wanted, and I wandered around the sporting goods section. And yes, I picked up some trekking poles for myself. Why do you ask? :)
I spent some time finishing the bug-out bag for my truck. I included first aid supplies, flares, light sticks, several types of emergency rations, paracord, waterproof matches and magnesium fire-starter (this is Alaska; the ability to generate heat may be all the "life-saving" you need, in winter), can opener, emergency blankets, a backup firearm and ammo. It's a good start.
I also read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I wasn't sure what to expect, and thought it might be a spoof. It was a bit surprising to find how seriously this "alternative biography" was treated. It's a bit slow getting started, but continually improves as you get into it. I'm not sure everyone would like it, but if you read much history, it's a familiar enough format.
