That's the problem: we don't know, and the police won't say. When even our left-leaning, nanny-state-cheerleading Anchorage Daily Worker News is asking what's going on ... well, draw your own conclusions.
(Excerpt) Too many questions remain about this shooting. APD still hasn't explained exactly what happened. The assistant district attorney who reviewed the police investigation of the shooting says he can't explain what evidence led to his conclusion that it was justified. Trust us, this man had to die, is not an adequate answer.
Especially not in the third case of a fatal shooting by authorities this year.
According to the Daily News, that's three by APD, plus six by the Alaska State Troopers, in 2012. One could be led to conclude that it's "shoot first and stonewall later"; when the citizens see that the police appear to have declared open season on citizens, the citizen response could turn quite ugly.
