Since hardly anyone speaks correctly (i.e., the King's English of the 1770s ... heh), here's the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in modern english:
Since the nation's security depends upon a properly-functioning militia, the People have the absolute right to keep and carry firearms. Congress shall make NO laws to change this.

In my best pathetic, self-important voice: "yeah, but what about machine guns, grenade launchers & M-1 Abrams tanks? hmmm? They could be used for defense!" [then all self-defense can be regulated by one's social superiors, see?]
Facts are facts...
RJC Jr - it's true; that point is raised every time the subject is brought up. It doesn't change the clear meaning of the Amendment. (Although I'd have a tough time arguing that "tank" = "firearm".)
Stephen, indeed - and they are stubborn things. :)
Guess Congress cannot read...
gfa, they can read. They apparently just don't care.
