From the Kodiak Daily Mirror:
KODIAK -- Chicken feathers were flying late Saturday night as Doug Pedersen took careful aim and with one shot brought down an 8-foot Kodiak bear raiding a chicken coop on Otmeloi Way.
"It just killed him stone dead," Pedersen said.
The bear is one of several that have been spotted roaming urban Kodiak since Oct. 1, rummaging through garbage dumpsters in one last eating binge before hibernation.

Thats a big bear.
I feel sorry for them. They just doing what bears do.
AJD, indeed. Not a record by any means, but still one of the bigger ones.
PH, it's what happens when humans and other predators share a territory.
He's a 'beaut!! Do they butcher them for the meat when they have to shoot them?
CottonLady, the meat from animals struck by vehicles, or shot out of season, are generally required by law to be donated to local food banks.
Rug.
BP, the article says that State troopers confiscated the hide. I guess someone at HQ will have a new rug in his/her office.
Yeah, I was gonna say Rug... I know a couple of people up there, they 'have' to kill the bears to protect their families.
Yeah, there are quite a few (cough)defense-of-life-or-property(cough) bear kills up here.
Yep, nice rug. Shame they didn't give the fur to the shooter. Ate bear once...never again.
Stephen, the bear you ate must have been prepared very poorly. We like it a lot, especially in chili or stews.
