It Was TOO Quiet Dept: I was just thinking it had been awhile since the local civilians-in-tactical-black-with-a-badge had shot anyone. It seems they took care of that last night.
They Never, Ever Learn Dept: Some GOP officials in Juneau, facing an long tussle over oil taxes, have announced it's time to focus on social issues. Hey, Doofi: if I wanted social engineering, I'd have voted for the other guys.
What Came Down Has Gone Back Up Dept: Long-time readers will recall that 1/3 of a largish church in mid-town Anchorage collapsed, back in March, from the weight of the record snowfall. They reopened yesterday.
If At First You Don't Succeed Dept: Fairbanks police say the misfiring of a gun may have saved a woman's life. Police told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that the woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted early Thursday by a former boyfriend who turned the gun on himself at the Tanana River dike after it misfired.
It worked, that time.
Why Don't We Talk About the Weather Dept: You know how they say it could always be worse? This morning in Eagle, Alaska, it's -37, with a windchill of -48.
And from the Anchorage Daily News, this:
VISITORS WE LIKE . . . Comedian Steve Martin was in town Tuesday and Wednesday to do a couple of shows here and commented on Twitter (of course he did) about us:
"People in Anchorage were so friendly! Fellow at airport changed all my US dollars for Alaskan currency so I wouldn't have to wait on line."
* * * * *
That's about all the local news I can handle, this morning. Y'all have a great day, and thanks for stopping by.

Um, brisk...
It will focus one's attention rather nicely, when you walk out the door.
Sometimes it just turns out that way....
It was all I hoped it would be.
Gotta love Steve Martin!
Hilarious!
Keep warm.

Steve Martin's a talented guy. :^) And thanks, gfa.
Oh yeah, Alaska :-)
Old NFO, it's like no place else, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
