Nevertheless, here's a bit of what's going on locally.
Alaska candidates begin positioning themselves for 2014 campaigns
The next statewide election is more than a year away, but candidates are already lining up for the top races - U.S Senate, U.S. House, governor, lieutenant governor - hoping to build name recognition and campaign accounts that could help boost their chances.
I rarely agree with Democratic senators on anything, but believe they're right to oppose this proposal:
Western senators press Obama to block mine
Five Democratic senators are asking President Barack Obama to consider blocking a proposed mine in Alaska's Bristol Bay, a move that could heighten pressure on the Environmental Protection Agency to veto the project.
In a letter Monday, the group of senators from Washington, Oregon and California, led by Washington's Maria Cantwell, argue that their states could suffer economically if a huge gold-and-copper mine moves forward. The EPA is conducting a scientific review of how the project, underwritten by mining giants Northern Dynasty and Anglo American, would affect the region's aquatic life.
And speaking of sunny, warm days, this picture is from mid-town Anchorage:

Sunshine would be why it drives me nuts when a church group I'm involved with schedules meetings on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. After a week in front of the computer I'm wanting to go out in the yard and play in the dirt.
We can usually tell when it's Friday, though; that's when the weather begins deteriorating in preparation for the weekend.
Yep, Mon-Thurs nice, Fri WX goes downhill, Sat-Sun suck and Monday is nice again!!! sigh
I concur; it's rare for the weekends to be as nice as the workdays, weather-wise.
