30 Seconds From Calling the Bomb Squad

Tenants just reported to me that someone left a full-sized, black duffel bag on top of the Coke machine.

Sure enough, there it sat ... and not a soul in sight. I decided not to move it, and had cell phone in hand, when the owner came hobbling down the hall from his doctor appointment. Seems he tossed it up there when getting a drink, and then went off without remembering that he left it behind.

Now that my heart rate is back to normal, I decided it would make a good short for the blog.

But ... seriously, dude? NOT a good idea.

I watch men who are accompanied by women in hijabs VERY carefully to make sure they don't leave anything behind. I work in an area where people hike a lot, so unattended backpacks abound. Which drove me NUTS when I got back from Afghanistan. Still makes me twitchy.

Exactly, sir; thank you.

Next it happens take a few steps back, perhaps outside, and place three rounds in it. If it doesn't blow you're clear...

You just had what I call a pucker moment.

I remember when a duffle bag was just a duffle bag.
Ah humanity.

Stephen, I thought about that ... but since it was indoors, with a doctor's office as a backdrop, I had to consider what lay behind the target. Darn it. :)

Cathy, me too. Apparently we're hopelessly old-fashioned.

Rev. Paul,

Just breathe my friend.....breathe!!!!

Oh I know how awkward this felt not knowing what was in the bag, and who it belonged too. With the way the world is going now, you can't trust anything left like that. Best to be safe and call the police, then to have something happen.

Yeah...once a week I have to go into the office - a gummit building right next to the Metro. That occasional seemingly unaccompanied bag on the wall of one of the gardens can make for nervous moments.

Sandy, that's what I was thinking at the time. It was such an unusual thing, that I didn't want to just ignore it.

I hear you, PH. "Nervous" is probably an understatement. :)
