Homeowner Holds Burglar at Gunpoint - On The Roof

Anyone up for some good news?
A Soldotna-area man detained a suspected burglar at gunpoint on his roof early Wednesday morning and then called 911, Alaska State Troopers said.

The man was at home in Mackey Lake with his family at about 6 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a stranger, later identified as 43-year-old Warren W. Hamilton of Anchorage, come into his mudroom, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said. Hamilton realized an interior door was locked and tried to get into the house through a second-floor window, troopers said. That's where the homeowner found him.

The man called emergency dispatchers at 6:11 a.m. and told them he was holding a prowler at gunpoint with a pistol, troopers said. Soldotna troopers arrived to see the homeowner on the phone with a dispatcher and Hamilton on the roof.

The homeowner provided a ladder, they said. Hamilton got down. He was not armed, Peters said, and had spent about 10 minutes on the roof.

Investigation revealed that Hamilton was wanted on a felony arrest warrant on a prior theft case, troopers said. He was also driving a truck reported stolen to Anchorage police.

Of course, the nannies in the anti-gun crowd would prefer that the homeowner curl up in a fetal position* & let the burglar do whatever he wanted.

* I understand it helps if you stick your fingers in your ears and repeat "LA, LA, LA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU" really loudly.

He should have kept him on the roof all day and night and then called the police the following morning.
Beautiful header, by the way!

I agree, Chickenmom. Or at least, round up the neighbors so they could all laugh at the burglar.

And thank you - I snapped that photo at the small boat harbor in Seward, a few years ago.

But, but...THE State is here to protect us!
We're to incompetent to do it on our own.

Hogwash!

We need to divide this country into two parts - one part people with a sense of empowerment and personal responsibility; the other everyone else.

Rev. Paul,

I think the homeowner deserves an award. Job well done to the homeowner. I would love to see the criminal go away for some time.

I am surprised they didn't insist he put the gun away. Cops... Bah...

Also your other post. HAHAHA ya it is amazing how they can spin things these days... And get away with it.

I agree, Sandy - he did everything right.

Preppy, the cops here wouldn't ask for that, unless the homeowner was doing something overtly dangerous to the public. Simply covering the bad guy isn't a problem, and he showed more restraint than most might.

And thanks. :)

I was glad to see the police were able to prevent a crime... I mean follow up after a crime.

Lessee - breaking and with a warrant already out for him, and doing it while using a stolen vehicle. Don't suppose he'll go away for more than a couple months, will he?

True, Max: they did what they're best at - pick up the pieces & assign blame.

PH, he'll get a bit more than that, here.
