The Questions Have Stopped

Strangely enough, I'm not getting any questions of "How cold is it in Alaska?" these days. Go figure.

Y'all have our weather, and we apparently have yours: it's 34 & foggy this morning, and the temps won't drop back into the teens (normal for early January) until this weekend.

But we're no strangers to really cold weather, so ... dress in layers, wear gloves, and limit exposure on your face. Be careful out there!

One other note this morning: there's some inflammatory info being promulgated on certain websites (no, I won't provide links) about Alaska salmon being contaminated by Fukushima radiation.

Not true, folks.

I hope to have more, later, but thanks for stopping by, and stay warm!

I suspect the fact that Iowa has -16*F with wind chills around -45*F has taken the edge of Alaska with its balmy 31*F. :)

That was my point, sir. It's not uncommon for the actual temp here to drop to -25°, this time of year. We're not liking this heat wave at all.

LOL you can have it! BTW I don't pay attention to all the "wind chill" crap unless I'm... you know... Out in the wind. ;) I don't need hype, negative temps are enough hype for me anytime.

Teresa, I learned while stationed in the Aleutians decades ago that wind chill can be dangerous. But yeah, if you're staying indoors, it's not usually a factor ... except that it's harder to keep the house warm when the frigid winds are howling. :)

Oh man, Alaskan Salmon. I have a buddy who goes up to a fishing cabin every year. He always brings me back the tastiest Salmon in the history of the world. I need to join him before I get too old!

Six, you definitely need to get up here - and not just the salmon, but the halibut ... oh my, fresh cold-water halibut is sublime!

And let me know when you're coming, 'kay?

If I hear "polar vortex" one more time I may scream. One of the local commentators has taken to playing the "Jaws" theme every time it comes up just out of disgust - we are going to have one night of wind chill of -21 and that's it but you'd think the world was ending.

In January of 1888, the Children's Blizzard dropped temps an estimated 100 degrees in a few hours time. Sometimes it gets cold in the winter.

I'm trying to send your temps back your way.
They accidentally wandered down here and I'd love to get them home to where they belong.
It's - 10.
Going dowwwwn to - 17

Rev. Paul,

I love it when you're warmer than most of the U.S. :-)

Are you going to do any ice fishing this year??

PH, it's a constant source of amazement when others can't remember what season it is. :)

Cathy, I don't blame you. We're actually sad because it isn't that cold right now.

Sandy, as I just noted above, we derive no particular pleasure from warm temps in the winter. This much frost & snow makes a BIG mess when it starts to melt.

And no ice fishing; I'm not a fisherman; just an eager consumer.
