Police at Anchorage’s airport briefly lost track of a small quantity of explosives used for training K-9 units Monday, but were able to recover them hours after a rental-car customer drove away the vehicle they were attached to.And, they insist, they do this for our safety.
According to Jesse Davis, chief of Airport Police and Fire at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, officers routinely conduct controlled exercises during which they hide explosives to help train explosive-sniffing dogs.
While other exercise locations have included airport terminals and warehouses, as well as parked aircraft and vehicles belonging to the state motor pool, Davis says Monday’s exercise was carried out in a parking lot full of rental cars.
In this case, Davis says, one of the rental cars was rented out.
Sigh....

They should have put sirens on the dogs running down the highway chasing the car. Maybe the renter guy would have stopped then :)
LOL!
Reminds me of the NYC cop that placed his AR on the trunk of his unit then climbed in and drove away having forgotten the rifle. What a find.
Holy smokes! That could really start your trip off with a bang.
***Note to self, check all rental cars thoroughly before driving off.
That was bad, Teresa - no more incendiary remarks, 'kay? :)
Stephen, indeed; pennies from heaven, and all that. Heh.
I'm so prod of our LEO's...NOT
Rob - even if it's a case of the rental company letting the car go before the PD was done, it shouldn't have happened. It's just sloppy.
You seem to have a lot of people around your neck of the woods that would fit right in as one of our employees
Sadly, Max, it seems to be that way everywhere.
The vilest word in the LEO lexicon is incompetence.
Or at least it used to be...
Someone's tail needs to be waxed.
What!?!?!? Sigh....
I understand, Six; it was that way during my badge-toting years. But that was a long time ago.
My response exactly, Keads. Exactly.
Below average in head work on that one... :-)
Yeah, they DEFINITELY need to work on coordination & communication. Thanks, sir.
Rev. Paul,
Now that's just totally crazy!!!
Sandy, we'll all agree with that assessment.
