Kenai Fire Doubles in Size ... Again (Updated)

The talking heads on Fox News gushed breathlessly about "hundreds of acres burning" in Arizona. Of course, that made the newscast.

We have over 44,000 acres burning, a few miles south of Anchorage. No one south of British Columbia gives a rip; at least they sent tanker aircraft here to help.

Smoke from the Funny River Horse Trail wildfire has reduced visibility for motorists traveling on the Sterling Highway near Kasilof on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
The wildfire burning on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has swelled to more than 44,000 acres.(adn.com)

Here's what Anchorage looks like, right now:
Anchorage at 6:42 a.m. today

The weatherman predicts that the southerly winds will switch to the north/northwest by mid-day, and push much of the smoke back toward the Peninsula.

Of course, the tenants in my building wasted no time (yesterday) complaining about the smell of smoke inside.

I'd be happy to consider an alternate source of atmosphere, if they'd care to point one out ...

A bet there are a lot of critters out there hating the smoke more than your neighbors though. Hope they get it out soon.

The moose and bear migration in the northern Kenai is amazing, right about now. You wouldn't want to get between them and the water, I'm thinkin'.

Yep, y'all don't have the 'constituency' up there to get any help... And I'd tell em you don't like the atmosphere, find another one... :-)

NFO, I hear there's an atmosphere on Titan, of a sort. :)

Everything is bigger in Alaska. Unfortunately, so is indifference by the rest of the country.

Quite true, WSF. It's not like we're not used to the neglect, but it remains a sore point. Ah well, this too shall pass.

Not all the rest of the country is ignoring it. Our daughter, son-in-law and grandsons live in Kasilof (we are in Pa.) We've been getting updates from them along the way.

I posted on this as well at Infidel Bloggers Alliance. Gave you a link within the post.

Prayers and thoughts to all of you. good luck.

Thank you, sir - and I pray your family here remains safe.

Rev. Paul,

Hopefully, the fire jumpers and fire departments are able to get a handle on these fires.
Be safe, and watch out for evacuating critters......both 4 legged and 2 legged.

We join you in that hope, Sandy. Thanks!

If it was California, this would be front page news all around the word. But then again, Californians are a bunch of whiny-assed babies.

Rev. Paul said...

ML, I'm forced to agree with you on both points.
