Today

It has been a remarkably busy day, despite not having any plans when we got up this morning.

I don't think I've mentioned it, but my mother-in-law is visiting from Missouri, so our activities are mostly revolving around that.

This morning I ran over to Cabela's and bought a 70-quart cooler for next weekend's 4-day stay in the village of Tok, where the Appleseed shoot will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Monday will be travel days, since Tok is some 310 miles northeast of here.

After lunch, we drove around checking out some of the larger used-car lots. It's now 16 months since I totaled my Expedition, and since I traded the little Escape to Younger Daughter in exchange for her sedan, I'm looking for another SUV.  I especially do not want to go through another Alaskan winter without a 4WD.

Having cruised those lots while fending off a horde of semi-desperate salesmen, I'm done for now.

Did we have any luck, you ask? Let's just say "It wasn't a shopping day."

I despise looking for a car. The salesmen almost have super sonic hearing, they "just" know when you drive in the lot.
The vehicle that you are looking for will just "pop" out in front of you.
Good Luck hunting

I rank car salesmen right there with root canals. Not eager to encounter either. Good luck on the search.

denimflyz & JMD, I'm with you. I hate the search, but my wife doesn't mind it so much. Sometimes she goes looking, and then calls me to join her when she finds one. Then it's not quite so bad.

I prefer the real bird vultures to the car lot ones - my Jeepster is on it's last year unless my Hubby & sons keep keep it together for a while longer.

Agreed, Chickenmom. My favorite lot here is one where the salesmen stay in the office until you find the car you like. You go find one, and he/she brings the keys & lets you drive it. If you still want it, you go back in the office & tell them so. If not, you just return the keys.

Infinitely better method.

My Sante Fe has been the perfect vehicle for me and I smile when I remember the salesman saying that I would want to keep it for a long time. Yep. Past 150000 miles and hoping for at leat another 100000. But that means they won't make another sale to me for a while.

PH, that's a good vehicle; congrats on that. I just don't want them to start making the cars crappy again (a la the 1980s) just to increase sales.
