Ours Again

Our house, that is.

My mother-in-law arrived June 18; we put her on a plane last night at 2330 hours. Low-impact, as visitors go, and a good conversationalist ... but after two weeks and five days, we were all out of things to talk about.

But now we can relax, and stroll around in jammies if we wish.

And a brief word about fireworks: we heard almost none last night. All together, less than 20 seconds' worth. Very strange, that. In previous years, they've started mid-June and run through August.

I don't know if they've grown too expensive (unlikely), or perhaps no one feels much like celebrating (more likely).

A busy weekend ahead: heading out to the gas station, post office, and Lowe's this morning. Cabela's this afternoon, and then Younger Daughter plans to introduce my wife to the fine art of bouldering and rock-climbing.

Tomorrow, we'll make a family trip to the range. I'll finally be able to get pics of me with the M1 Garand, and will practice the things I learned at the Appleseed event last weekend.

Y'all have a great Saturday; thanks for stopping by.

Interesting we had very similar firework observations. It seemed the night time display was maybe 2/3rd's of normal here despite being perfect conditions for them but the days leading up to the fourth were very quiet and serene. That is almost unheard of here.

It was just as you describe here in rural Virginia also.

Wish we had your fireworks experience. All day long and into the night until around 11 p.m. starting four days ago. Hope the run out of money soon.

Poor dog is spending his time under my desk and giving me the stink eye.

Preppy, it's strange.

Jane, ditto: I've never heard the 4th be so quiet.

WSF, while I'm gratified to know that SOMEone is celebrating, I'm sorry to hear that you're not able to enjoy it.

Stroll around w/o jammies!
I guarantee she'll leave sooner...
:-P

Re: fireworks - they were abundant, even with the drought present.
The puppy dog barked at every pop.

That thought occurred to us, Guffaw, but she's gone now. :)

Very quiet in northern Arizona also. Of course we like it that way but even the City's small firework display was scaled back. Lots of flags flying on our street and close by other than that...nada.

I think it is nice that you had the mom-in-law at your home and were gracious to her. Good thing.

Not sure of my community, but in my little neighborhood, the kiddo's blew off (as well as the parents) a LOT of money in the air. We had a neighborhood barbecue, one neighbor hosted the event, and everyone brought sides. It was wonderful, and restful, even with blowing up the world. My dogs and cats are still hanging off of the ceiling, giving me a fish eye, though, slowly calming down.
I feel there isn't much to celebrate either, but the food was good. I'm happy when there is food involved.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Rev. Paul,

It sounds like you had a lovely visit with your MIL. It's always nice though when company returns home and the house is nice and quiet.

Did the state or local towns restrict where fireworks could be set off? We have fire bans therefore, certain areas can't set off any fireworks.

Thanks, JMD.

NFO, it's gonna be fun. Thanks!

denimflyz, I hear you re: the food involved. No parties here that I could seen.

Sandy, fireworks are illegal here in Anchorage (that's 1,955 sq. miles) and in the borough to the north (20,000 square miles). But people buy & use them, anyway.
