Friday Newsday

or something ...
Unidentified 29-year-old Kodiak woman accused of leading police, troopers on chase

When a Kodiak man momentarily stepped away from his 2007 Nissan Titan on Wednesday to drop his two children off at daycare, a woman the man does not know jumped in the truck and got behind the wheel, according to the Alaska State Troopers.

... She is accused of leading law enforcement on a pursuit that lasted 19 minutes and ended when Alaska Wildlife Troopers deployed spike strips to bring the truck to a halt.

Troopers wrote in a dispatch that the Kodiak woman refused to open the doors, and troopers had to break the driver’s side window to remove her from the truck.
Alaska State Troopers say she nearly struck three law enforcement officers ... According to a Thursday AST dispatch, the list of offenses includes three counts of third-degree assault as well as one count each of first-degree vehicle theft, first-degree failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. The woman hasn’t been identified because she hasn’t yet been formally charged.

North Pole Teen Found; Missing Again Within Hours

Alaska State Troopers say a runaway teenager returned to his family Wednesday evening was reportedly out the door again in less than four hours, prompting a second request from troopers for public help in finding him.

... "He was found at about 6:30 p.m.," AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen said. "After troopers reunited him with his family, he was reported missing again at about 10 p.m."

NORAD: Rumor of Russian bombers in Alaska airspace isn't quite what it seems

Much has been made of reports that Russian military aircraft have penetrated U.S. airspace 16 times over the last 10 days. But the so-called incursions aren't actually a violation of any treaty, national border, or military agreement.

Hope the Titan owner has good insurance.

Ya know I am amazed at the number of charges they throw at people. It's to the point that you are almost being charged two or more times really for the same crime. I still think they are a little too loose with that vehicular assault charge too.

WSF - IF he's insured, it'll be covered. There are mandatory minimums up here.

Preppy - that started about four decades ago: they add every charge that could possibly apply, in hopes that the perp will be convicted on SOME of them.

You folks in Alaska are becoming a wild bunch! lol Be grateful for small problems. It gets a lot worse in the other states. We have tons of illegals streaming in.... :-(

JMD, Alaskans have always been a wild bunch. It was worse in the old days (up until about 20 years ago), because the population was so small & so spread out. We're gettin' too goldurned civilised nowadays.

Insurance must be very expensive up your way!

Chickenmom, it's a bit higher here ... but since everyone's required to have a certain amount of coverage, that helps a bit.

A bit. :)
