A Nip in the Air

It was 32° F. here this morning; we finally closed the windows (upon awakening) and ran the furnace for awhile.

The Northern Birch leaves have lost their rich green color, now looking pale with a yellowish tinge. In fact, there are clusters yellow leaves, here and there ... and not a few of them on the ground already.

Somewhere off in the distance, there's the sound of gunfire. It could be from the Wet Bunny Range, some three miles to the south. I suppose the staff might be getting some early practice before it opens to the public at 10:00.

A long-time follower and commenter, Rob, has a new blog up: At The Lake In The Woods. Go check it out, and let him know I sent you.

Meanwhile, the coffee's rich and strong, and breakfast is nearly ready. All y'all take care out there, and thanks for stopping by.

Are you excited about winter setting in? I'm very excited and it's really coming in hard and fast for once (well I think hope).
We had gunfire last night around the cabin, it's time to wear orange instead of multicam....

Max, we're a lot more excited about winter this year than last, when we had no 4x4. There's something about facing 6+ feet of snow with only a four-door sedan that sucks the joy out of the season. :)

You're welcome, Rob. :)

We were so hot and humid today that your 32' "almost" sounds good :)

Cathy, we got up to 61° today, if that helps. :)

I'm bad. I saw the title and I was sure that this post was going to have a Japanese Zero in it somewhere.

Is there any help for me?

It was 50* here this morning in Nebraska. The nights are cooling down, and the mornings are wonderfully refreshing with a steamy cup of coffee on the patio, a time for me to collect my thoughts to start and get through the day.
I love the whale photo. I am land locked and the only sea creatures I see are little fish and crawdads in the river.
Have a wonderful week and enjoy the cool.

ML, I always think the same thing, so I'm equally bad.

denimflyz, I thank you.

And it's snowing in Wyoming... sigh...

The best time of the is coming up soon. Crisp mornings and the scent of wood stove smoke in the air. Humid outside now, but that will change, just as some of the maple tree leaves have already.

NFO, understood. They're a bit higher in elevation than we are, here at sea level.

Chickenmom, there aren't many wood stoves & fireplaces left in our squeaky-clean, environmentally-friendly era ... but I love the smell of wood smoke.

Sometimes I dream of moving to Alaska. Such as nights like last night when the low temp got down to 80 degrees.

Yeah....such fun. While, it is September in Texas. That means only another 30 or 40 days of temps in the upper 90s or 100.

Just not sure I want to trade 8 months of summer for 8 months of winter.

Bob, I understand your apprehension about our cooler climate. To be fair, we have "winter" only from November through April or May, here in Anchorage. It does go on a bit longer, farther north.

Rev. Paul,

Winter's will soon be knocking at our doors.

Enjoy the warmth and the coffee.

Sandy, we haven't seen termination dust (snow on the peaks above town) yet. That's the "official" sign that winter's on the way ... but it's only a matter of time.
