Four Moose on the Drive Home

When I got to my exit, I noticed there were a number of vehicles on the off-ramp, which was a common thing when we still had a stoplight. Since the installation of roundabouts, not so much.

But when I was headed down the ramp, I realized that folks slowed down because they were too busy watching the mama moose and her three yearling calves.

Sorry for the poor quality. 'Twas the best I could do in a hurry.

I've mentioned, from time to time, that mama mooses frequently have twins. Given the high mortality rate of young moose, that's a good thing. But I've never seen or even heard of triplets.

Until now.

Seems unlikely, Preppy, but who knows? :)

Chickenmom - since it's winter, we'll have about 1,600 of 'em in town for the season.

The magic of wildlife and babies!
I still like to slow down and often stop to check out the wildlife around here and at the cabin. Something very relaxing and awesome about it all.

Corey - nope. And as you can see, they ran diagonally across the center of the roundabout, too.

threecollie, fawns are cute; just not as large. Those yearlings pictured here are in the 600 to 800 pound range.

Max, I hear you. Even life-long Alaskans still stop in their tracks to watch moose. There's something about a 1,200 lb vegetarian that can take out your car ... heh.
