Another Blow Against Wind Power

Fire Island Wind has had to cancel construction and shipping contracts that would have added 11 wind turbines to the island in Cook Inlet just west of Anchorage.
Alaska Railbelt utilities declined to purchase the company’s power following two years of negotiations.

I guess it's not such a windfall of profit if no one will buy the product.

What they have to sell their electricity? No Obummer orchestrated solendra type subsidy I guess...

Preppy - Fire Island is uninhabited, and the Native corporation which bought & installed the turbines just assumed that the two power companies in Anchorage would clamor for "cheap" electricity. Turns out ... not so much.

You would think the existing power companies would jump at the chance to buy cheap power and resell it on their grid increasing their profits. This way they could save all the maintenance and wear on their equipment. Then again maybe there's bad blood somewhere in the deal negotiations.
