Alaska's On Fire

As of 11 a.m. Friday, the State is tracking 321 active wildfires across Alaska which have burned over 400,000 1,000,000 acres (that figure as of Saturday morning).

small blue pinlocal: less than 10 acres light blue pinmoderate: 10 to 250 acres (0.04-1 km²)
yellow pinlarge: 250 to 2500 acres (1-10 km²) red pinvery large: more than 2500 acres (10 km²)

Oh, my gosh. I had no idea how widespread this is. Thoughts and prayers for those fighting the fires and those who are in the paths of them. You and yours - stay safe.

Were these fires started from lightning, or did human's have something to do with it.....do you know?

This year fires haven't been as bad as they usually are here. Most of our fires are started from humans throwing their cigarettes out the window....their not to bright!!!

Sandy, the majority are from lightning, but the first big one (the Willow/Sockeye fire) was from fireworks. Not sure how many of the rest were human-caused.
