Quote of the Day

And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control. History has proven that.

~ Lord Acton

Sir John Dalberg-Acton (1834 - 1902)

Brilliant!

About Lord Acton from acton dot org:

Described as “the magistrate of history,” Lord Acton was one of the great personalities of the nineteenth century and is universally considered to be one of the most learned Englishmen of his time. He made the history of liberty his life's work; indeed, he considered political liberty the essential condition and guardian of religious liberty.

As I said yesterday, Guffaw, Santayana was right.

Agreed, Alec; that's why I quoted him. :)

And nothing is worse than to have Santayana quoted to you!

That's quite correct, Guffaw. It means "you missed an important thing, just then". It's never a good thing, either!
