Back to Work

After the weekend's fun, what with buying a new car and all, coming back to work is less than exciting. But still necessary, to replenish what we took out of the bank.

It's still raining, and AccuHunch Weatherguess says we'll have falling temps tomorrow, with rain changing to snow at some point. They're only calling for 1 to 3 inches, which is about normal for the first snowfall of the season. It's just that the "first snowfall" doesn't usually happen until the end of October.

It's a good thing that the prediction is for such a small amount of the white stuff: no one has their snow tires on, yet.

Looks like we got that new little 4x4 for my wife just in time. She's a happy camper. :)

Shell Oil announced that it's pulling out of arctic exploration in Alaska, which has the environmentalists jumping for joy. I recognize that they're sincere in their beliefs.

Sincerely wrong.

But this isn't going to be a forum on why we need the oil and gas. I'd be preaching to the choir, anyway. I doubt anyone from Friends of Alaska, The Wilderness Society, or Greenpeace bothers to read this little blog.

They're all based in Washington, DC, by the way. That tells you everything you need to know about where their motivations lie: it's all about the money. You take away the donations and political influence, and 99% of their members would wander away in search of a different source of latte'.

Bah.

That's about all I've got this morning. But who knows? The day is young.

Thanks for stopping by, friends.

Rev. Paul,

If it snows, it will be a great time for your wife to test out her new SUV. I bet your wife is happy driving her new vehicle with or without the snow :-)

What a shame to hear of this pullout by Shell. I wonder how many Alaskans will lose employment when this happens?

Sandy, she's ecstatic. The old car was a bare-bones fleet vehicle, with no options at all, so she's really thrilled with all the bells & whistles. :)

I can understand Shell pulling out what with all the cheap oil and gas available at the moment. The Arctic is a harsh environment to drill in even when land based. Add the rediculous amount of regulations they were burdnened with--some of them contradicory--and it makes sense.

Snow? Already? Were't you guys enjoying above average temperatures this summer?

Yep, DC is a ways from Anchorage... And no, they don't really give a rats ass about anything but 'donations'...

joated, your observation about Shell is correct. And yep, snow ... despite the very warm July and dry August.

NFO, like I said: I was preaching to the choir. :)

Just what I really need.

As I have to travel down to the Los Anchorage V.A.hospital tomorrow.

And with the first snowfall in the big city going on.
Everyone will be wanting to play bumper cars. Yikes!!

Griz, it doesn't sound like it'll be much of anything - maybe just a little slush tonight. No worries.

I'd a friend, years ago.
He'd say, "They call it work, because they have to pay you to go there!"

That's a fact, Guffaw. I've had jobs in the past which I'd have done for free. Ministry is the main thing, but I really loved being a building inspector, too. Current job? I like it okay, but the money's nice. :)
