Alaska Aviation Statistics

Alaska leads the country when it comes to the overall number of aircraft crashes, according to data recently released in a report by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

The report also states the number of crashes in Alaska per year has dropped significantly since 1982. The number steadily decreased from a high of 220 crashes during 1984 to 79 last year.

The decrease from 220 annual plane accidents, 30 years ago, to 79 now is especially significant when you consider that the population of Alaska has doubled in those years.

God on the aviation community for improving the safety record. Probably a lot of peer to peer effort going on.

You're correct, sir: there's a "Circle of Safety" program wherein pilots encourage each other to be safe, stay up to date on training & classes, and use the best available technology. It's working.
