It's 14 degrees with a wind chill of 4, this morning. Heavy frost, from the looks of things, with nary a cloud in sight.
We'll be heading out across this frosty land soon, gathering foodstuffs for the coldest months of winter.
Naw. Don't believe everything you read. It is cold and frosty today, but "the coldest months" probably won't be.
According to the weatherguess forecast, El Nino will keep us warmer than normal through May, but with increasing precipitation. As long as we get lots of moisture into the ground, maybe this year won't be a record season for forest fires ... like last year.
Meanwhile, looks like the Iditarod's official start will be moved to Fairbanks, where there's plenty of snow. In fact, the whole course should be snowy this year. That's a good thing; last year, there was an awful lot of rocky trail they had to cover. Hard on the dogs, the mushers, and the sleds.
That's all I've got for now. Be careful out there, stay alert, and thanks for stopping by. :)

I am glad you are keeping the snow this year!!!
Apparently you are letting your cold slip down here though this weekend so take it back soon please.
Preppy, we're several feet shy on snow this winter, but still have a bit more than last year. El Nino is wreaking havoc again. And you're welcome to send the cold back this way: it should be 20 or 30 degrees colder here than it is.
Would you be interested in taking the, "Gusts to 65 mph, no light trailers advised", in Wyoming last week?
WSF, we had 65 gusting to 100 the week before Christmas, so sure. Bring it on up here, and we'll just batten down.
And now I've read where El Nino is weakening, and may not prove to be what it was advertised as.....
Oh, well.....
That would be okay with us, Jim. It would be nice to get some heavy snows, like we're supposed to, before it warms up again.
Good for the Iditarod folks! Stay warm, and good luck with that weather!
NFO, we'll take whatever comes, because it's not like we have a choice. :) Thanks.
I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for snow in Feb/March. The Sockeye fire was just down the road from us, an experience we'd rather not repeat soon.
I'm with you in that wish, airphoria. None of us want to make that "top five largest fires" list again.
Rev. Paul,
Good thing there's plenty of snow for the Iditarod in Fairbanks.
Strange weather lately. We usually have more snow and snow days too. Makes me worry what spring will be like in Oklahoma.
