Armed Robbery ... But Yesterday Evening

started out pleasantly enough.

Older Daughter and I met at Cabela's, after she got off work from the pharmacy at 5:15. (That will become important in just a bit.)

Make no mistake: these are BIG boys. That "stay back" barrier is about mid-abdomen high to me.

I waited inside the entrance, by the big fireplace, until she arrived.

Roast-toasty.

We strolled through the camping supply section, and she pointed out the various things she wants to buy this year, to round out her gear. A ground cloth/floor protector to put under her new tent ... a carrying bag for the dutch oven ... a lid lifter for the top of said dutch oven ... this ... that ... and the other.

She's done her homework, and I approve. She knows which ones are cheaper at Cabela's, or Bass Pro, or Sportsman's Warehouse. Clearly, she's been burning up the roads between those stores here in Anchorage. :)

We swung past the olde tyme candy display near the cafe', so I could grab some horehound candy. (Love that stuff!)

As we were checking out, I got a call from the pharmacy manager in my building. "We were just robbed at gunpoint," he said. "Could you come back and let the officers see the surveillance footage from the lobby?"

"What time was the robbery?"

"5:30."  Older Daughter had been gone for about 15 minutes when the bad guy showed up, for which I'm grateful. (She had a gun pointed in her face when she was 17, when her Subway shop was robbed, and doesn't need to have that happen again.)

So I went back to the office, where two APD officers, the manager and I watched the playback together. This morning, I managed to remember how to log into that DVR from my desktop, and printed screencaps for them. Those have just been handed off to APD, and now I'll have to calm any other tenants who may be jittery about what happened.

I pray all y'all have a better day than I will. :)  Thanks for stopping by.

Did she work at the pharmacy?

At least neither of you were in the middle of it! :-)

Ed - yes. I should probably have clarified that.

NFO - a fact for which I'm VERY grateful!

Just hope they catch who did that. Years ago my Dad was robbed at gun point. Scared him half to death. All he could see was the muzzle of the gun. He never went back to that restaurant again. Thankfully no one was hurt, but they never caught the robber.

Glad everyone is okay!
Hope they catch the bastards!

Chickenmom - the robbers here tend to be caught, because there's nowhere else to go. They hit numerous similar establishments, and eventually leave enough evidence to be identified.

Guffaw - all are well, but shaken. I join you in that fervent wish.

Wow. Scary, Very. Glad your daughter missed that.

It was, Cathy. Thank you.

Glad no one was hurt. It has happened to me twice and the memories come back at the oddest times.

Thanks, WSF. Once is too many, eh?

EEEEK!

... and oh, I bet there's some weapons-grade DaddyRage in your neck of the woods this week. :)

Jenny, it's at a moderate level; she wasn't directly threatened, and no one was hurt. Could have been worse, and I'd have been organizing a posse.
