Another Saturday Night, er, Morning

Living alone, if temporarily, has its rewards: my weekend shopping run only took about 40 minutes, instead its usual two to three hours.

Older Daughter and I will be heading back out to look for some security-related items for the new house. It's more a matter of matching the color of the existing hardware than anything else. But it's fun, just the same, as it's for a great cause. :)

Speaking of the new place, we'd have been able to close yesterday, had we not scheduled both vacations in April. But that's the way it goes. Like John Lennon famously wrote, "Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans."

But, other than finishing the packing, we're ready to move. All the paperwork is finished; the VA, mortgage company, title company, sellers, and everybody's brother are all satisfied. We'll need movers for a few of the bigger items, but we can do most of it ourselves. That Very Large Garage (with apologies to A.A. Milne) makes a terrific staging area, and only the stairs will present a challenge.

Due to the terrain-related challenges of building in the greater Anchorage area (lots of mountains, not much flat land), many lots are quite small. Accordingly, many homes are multiple-stories tall. Our new lot is roughly .6 of an acre, but that's more an anomaly, here.

So, life goes on ... and so do we.  Thanks for stopping by, friends.

I can offically announce that we are finally finished moving our 75 feet into the new house. I have realized that as I get older, I really hate moving. You probably feel the same way, lol.

Senior, I'm considerably older than you are ... and yeah, after this 23-mile move to the new house, we're pretty much done.

Our next move, from Kommifornia to Colorado, will be our last.

And I know what you mean about shopping with the wife.

I can be in and out of the store in half an hour.

Figure at least TWO hours when we go together.

Rev. Paul,

As we get older we realize moving isn't really fun, it's a lot of work. Hopefully, this will be your last move for a while. We probably will have 2 more moves, and were not looking forward to it.
Having everything prepared is the true secret.

You're right of course, Jim. My way to shop would be to call ahead to the store & have them lay my item(s) on the counter. I'll go in and pay, and then 5 minutes later ... I'm doing something else. :)

Sandy, we don't plan on a "for while". This is it, as far as we're concerned. But my wife has a gift for getting things ready, and being prepared. My job is just to get stuff in boxes.

Guffaw, with my back, there's no other way. And there's only about another half hour of packing, as I type this. But breakfast comes first.

Moving is one of my least favorite activities. I had never moved for the first 18 years of my life; since college, I have moved 10 times - and always with more stuff, of course...

The Ravishing Mrs. TB and I have been talking about this off and on now. I think we have maybe two possible moves left to make.

Rev. Paul said...

TB - agreed. My wife and I moved 13 times (if we include her changing apartments while in college) in the first 11 years of marriage. We've now moved nearly 20 times in 36 years, and since we've been in our current place for over 12, most of those moves were in the first 24 years. I'm sincerely tired of packing and unpacking, and hope never to do it again.

I have sworn that my next move will come 1) when I'm dead or 2) involve a can of gasoline and a match.

PH - that's pretty much where we are, too. This one needs to be the last.

Glad you've gotten through the big bits! :-)

As are we, NFO. The sellers' agent recently inquired why we were waiting so long to close, but vacations were already scheduled & paid for. Nice to know there isn't anything holding things up.
