Liquor store gets smashed as man in stolen front-end loader leads cops on chase

A man was arrested early Thursday after police say he used a stolen front-end loader to smash into a Midtown liquor store, steal alcohol and lead officers on a low-speed chase through East Anchorage.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said in a statement that police were flagged down at about 3:20 a.m. by a witness who had seen the vehicle — fitted with a pair of forklift prongs — crash into the Brown Jug liquor store in the 2200 block of East Northern Lights Boulevard, "ripping off most of the front entrance of the store."

Was he visiting from Dutch Harbor?

I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Saw an older gent, that used a riding lawn mower to get to town. I never asked why I just assumed no license, he'd stay on the trails mostly. I never saw him drunk but who knows.

Down in Florida golf carts on sidewalks was the norm.

I've known of a couple gents who rode riding mowers whenever their licenses were suspended ... which was most of the time. Haven't seen golf carts on the sidewalk except as service vehicles for the Parks Dept., though.

No spike strips the end the low speed pursuit?

Apparently not, Senior. I doubt standard spikes would affect lugs that thick, anyway.
