URGENT CALL TO REPENTANCE: All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord. And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee. For the Kingdom is the Lord’s and He rules among the nations. (Psalm 22:27-28)
PH, I believe it began with the Progressive movement in the late 1800s, and accelerated like crazy when Woodrow Wilson championed it. Schools stopped teaching the Constitution, and focused instead on case law - what judges have said the document says, rather than what it says about itself. No one has been taught how to think for at least three generations, perhaps more.
we are born knowing how to think. what schools do is teach people to ignore the evidence of their eyes and to deny what their gut is telling them. my child only saw the inside of a school when she went with me to vote. also, our homeschooling was done sub rosa. don't let gov't. interfere ,even from a distance. it is none of their business.
where we lived the ignorant pols would say the state needs to educate its children. i said that is true-- the state may educate every child to which it gives birth as it sees fit, sand i will educate those to whom i give birth as i see fit.
deborah, that's some rare wisdom, right there. We homeschooled our daughters because we already knew they'd be brainwashed by the educational system, if we allowed it. We didn't.
Ralph and I enjoyed the Bill Whittle video very much. Thinking for oneself is something we do and were expected to do (born in the 50's). The "selfie mentality" is disturbing and the focus on consumerism terrifies me....there is so much more to living well and healthy....physically and mentally.
Fiona, we're the same age, give or take. My class was the last to have a Civics class (Constitution, responsibilities & rights of a citizen, etc). I never understand the purpose of "social studies" because it didn't require anything of us. Now I know why, but it was still wrong-headed.
I think things we work hard to learn mean a lot more to us and we have a better understanding of what it is we have learned. The United States Constitution is in my mind the greatest document written by "man". How politicians have twisted it is tragedy of monumental proportions.

Excellent. Unfortunately, the lack of critical thinking started in the boomer generation.
